Theft is one of the few remaining taboos in modern culture. This is true both in the case of physical possessions and digital content. Cybersecurity and data theft have escalated dramatically over the past decade. However, when it comes to people stealing ideas, there is a strange ambiguity regarding how much an artist can take from another artist before it constitutes plagiarism. Philosophers have thrown around the expression that “Good artists copy and great artists steal” but the legal system tends to disagree.
