“Escapism,” in its most fundamental sense, is defined by Merriam-Webster as “an activity or form of entertainment that allows people to forget about the real problems of life.” “Denial,” on the other hand, is defined in psychology as “refusing to admit the truth or reality of something unpleasant.” Both these concepts have undoubtedly become common nowadays. In this day and age where problems abound and technology has become a vital part of everyday life, most people have grown accustomed to escaping reality when the going gets tough. Denial, indeed, is what keeps the various sectors of civilization – medicine, finance, government and agriculture – moving.
